Creating new concepts, products and services with user driven innovation

User driven innovation is emerging as one of the successful ways of creating breakthrough innovations for companies and organisations. In this project called "Create concept innovation with users", a Nordic and Baltic consortium lead by FORA has been able to identify four generic methods of working with user driven innovation: user test, user exploration, user innovation, and user participation.

Health claims still on the agenda

In 2006 the Nordic Innovation Centre (NICe) granted funding for the project ACCLAIM, as part of the Functional Food programme. The project, which contemplated consumer acceptance and trust in health claims, finished more than a year ago. Still the project’s participants continue to work on the topic: Now they have published two new articles presenting updated results.

Environmental technology verification (ETV) tillhandahåller oberoende fakta över miljöteknik. Med dess hjälp kan företag välja teknologier som har minst möjlig påverkan på klimatet. Systemet finns redan i många länder, bland annat USA och Canada. Nu etableras det även i EU, Nordic Water Technology Verifications är det nordiska projektet i det nya systemet.

The Top-level Research Initiative launches a call for Nordic User Driven Research Projects in the field of nanotechnology in order to develop improved energy efficient solutions for future commercialization. The sub-programme “Energy Efficiency with Nanotechnology” aims to improve efficiency of future sustainable energy systems by applying nanotechnology to the transport sector, energy conversion and energy use.

Substantiation of weight regulation and satiety related health claims on foods

Risks of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and hypertension rise continuously with increasing weight, creating a huge overlap between the prevention of obesity and the prevention of a variety of chronic diseases. New EU-legislation allows the use of weight regulation and satiety-related health claims on foods, if sufficient scientific evidence exists behind the claims. This offers new opportunities to the Nordic food industry.

Cleaner air

Nanosized soot particles are a serious health hazard in urban environments and vehicle emissions are responsible for a considerable amount of those particles. To reduce particle emissions from vehicles, an innovative soot sensor is being developed in the project SootSens.

Helsevesenet står overfor store utfordringer med en aldrende befolkning og mer krevende pasienter. De utfordringene som helsevesenet står ovenfor i de nordiske landene er stort sett de samme. Nordisk InnovationsCenter har bestilt denne rapporten for å få en oversikt over de nasjonale prioriteter, samt tiltak og programmer som har til hensikt å stimulere til økt innovasjon i helsesektoren.

Nordic Centres of Excellence on Effect studies and Adaptation to Climate Change

The Top-level Research Initiative launches a call for Nordic Centres of Excellence within the sub-programme ”Effect studies and Adaptation to Climate Change”. The aim is to improve knowledge about society’s capacities for adaptation, and the risks and opportunities that the effects of climate change may bring the Nordic region. The total budget of the call is 90 MNOK over 5 years. Application deadline: 3 March 2010 (16:00 CET)

This report presents the results of a pan-Nordic study to explore how small and medium-size enterprises use IPR. It is a pilot study that demonstrates a commonly developed approach designed to overcome the barriers that hinder study of IPR use by small firms.

The project focuses on user-driven innovation processed in the growing Nordic sports equipment industry. Not only on how users help firms develop better technical products but also on how taking users seriously helps firms build and commercialize better and more competitive brands.
