Mandag besøkte Nordisk InnovationsCenter (NICe) World Economic Forum (WEF) for å bidra i planleggingen av det årlige toppmøtet i Davos, januar 2011. Arbeidsmøtet fant sted i WEF sitt hovedsete i Genève med forumets grunnlegger Klaus Schwab som leder for vertskapet.

This report is one of the outcomes of the project: “CSR-Driven Innovation – Combining design and business in a profitable and sustainable way” which was carried out in the period 2007 - 2010. The aim of the project was to strengthen the competitiveness of Nordic SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) by providing them with an increased knowledge about how to use CSR-driven innovation.

SILLQUID - Can a Microwave Quick Tool Predict Quality and Origin of Herring

There is a great need within the fish industry for quick tools to measure origin, fat content and general quality right after landing. In SILLQUID, the fast and non-destructive method MWspectroscopy, developed in two recent EU-projects, was tested for prediction of origin, compositional and quality parameters of a unique herring material collected and analyzed during NI-project 02106.

Green Nanotechnology in Nordic Construction

This project analyzes Nordic trends in the development and industrial uptake of green nanotechno-logy in construction. The project applies an evolutionary economic perspective in analyzing the innovation dynamics and firm strategies in the window value chains in three Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland and Sweden.

BASECOD - Stable and safe production of high quality cod larvae and juveniles

Stable supplies of high quality cod larvae and juveniles are urgently needed for the development of successful cod farming industries in countries around the North Atlantic. The project is a collaboration between key actors from the cod farming industry and the research sector in Iceland, Norway and the Faroe Islands, with involvement of additional key actors and stakeholders within the Nordic countries and Canada.

ENZYCOAT - Oxygen scavenging and aroma affecting enzymes embedded in barrier coatings

The enzyme-containing coatings seemed to persist drying at elevated temperatures for limited period of times. The period of time with no dramatic decrease in enzyme activity was substantial shorter than drying times in real industrial coating and printing processes (on condition that the web will be cooled down before reeling up). The coatings could also be stored in air at room temperature for long period of times without any loss in enzyme activity.

Regional trajectories to the knowledge economy - Nordic-European comparisons (REKENE)

The main objective of the REKENE project as well as the ‘mother project‘ EURODITE has been to investigate how knowledge is generated, developed and transferred within and among firms or organisations and their regional contexts in order to gain a better understanding of how policies may be developed and used to facilitate knowledge dynamics.

Applying converging technologies for innovation in Nordic regions

The report investigates how policy makers can place technological convergence at the top of the agenda in (regional) innovation policies to enable more companies and research institutions to begin to address opportunities for innovation and growth generated through technological convergence. The study draws on a literature review and interviews with experts, companies, mediating organisations, and regional authorities. In addition, we have conducted a survey in the Nordic countries.

Suksess for EPCIS i Sverige

eTrace, et prosjekt innen SafeFoodEra, gjennomførte i mai en sporbarhets-pilot innen fiskeribransjen i Sverige, for å finne ut om EPCIS standarden er egnet til å spore fisk i forsyningskjeden. Den vellykkede piloten påviste en rekke fordeler med EPCIS-baserte systemer, inkludert økt fortjeneste for detaljister. EPCIS (Electronic Product Code Information Services) er en EPCglobal standard for å dele EPC- og EPC relaterte data innenfor og på tvers av virksomheter.

Vil vara sin egen chef

45 procent av alla européer skulle vilja vara sin egen chef om det var möjligt. Det visar en Eurobarometer-undersökning som EU-kommissionen presenterade förra veckan. Siffran är lägre än i t.ex. USA, där 55 procent av befolkningen kan tänka sig starta företag och bli egen chef.

NICe i Shanghai

Nordisk InnovationsCenter (NICe) presenterer Nordiske Innovasjonsrepresentasjoner i Asia på verdensutstillingen i Shanghai.
NICe-prosjektet er ett av temaene som løftes fram på den nordiske dagen under verdensutstillingen i Shanghai 25. juni. Det er senior innovasjonsrådgiver Jørn Bang Andersen som presenterer NICes arbeid i Kina.

Investorer som både er villige til å gå inn med både kompetanse og risikokapital. Kapital er viktig for å stimulere innovasjon. Norden kan tiltrekke seg mer slik kapital ved å fjerne grensehindre for investeringer i vår region.

Konferanse: Nordic Seed Capital Summit 2010

Torsdag 27. mai var nordiske aktører innen såkornfinansiering samlet på konferansen ”Nordic Seed Capital Summit”. Arrangementet fant sted for andre år på rad med det mål om å styrke samarbeidet og dialogen mellom offentlige og private investorer i såkornmarkedet.

Et tema som opptok de fleste av deltagerne, var hvordan man best kan løse utfordringen med manglende tilgang på risikovillig kapital i det nordiske såkornsmarkedet.

LUDINNO is a hands-on user-driven innovation-project which has provided new concepts, ideas and knowledge for businesses, and a platform for a Nordic research cooperation in the field of merging design and user-driven innovation (UDI) processes. In the project students supported by academics and trained professionals cooperated with businesses to carry out real and user driven business projects.

Maximum resource utilisation - Value added fish by-products

The aim of the project was to improve the competitiveness of the fish industry by industry driven research. Both existing and improved ingredients from rest raw materials in the fish processing industry was evaluated for utilization in processing lines of whitefish fillets and emulsion based foods. In addition to general raw material properties and application, special emphasis was put on properties and production of fish protein isolates (FPI), fish protein hydrolysate (FPH), homogenized fish protein (HFP) and gelatin.

During the spring and summer of 2010, the Nordic Innovation Centre (NICe) will carry out a study that will explore the possibilities of creating a Nordic Platform for Clinical Trials. The reason for the study is that it has become harder to attract clinical trials to the Nordic countries.

This week the Nordic Innovation Centre (NICe) summoned the Nordic tourism organizations to a workshop in Oslo. The agenda was to discuss how the Nordic countries can collaborate and jointly develop the region in order to strengthen the Nordic tourism industry and experience economy. The workshop marked the beginning of the new “Nordic Tourism Partnership".

NOWATECH - Nordic Water Technology Verification Centers (NT TECH REPORT 619)

In the NOWATECH project, co-ordinated methods for environmental technology verification (ETV) have been developed and implemented at three centers, and the centers have conducted in total 10 pilot verifications. The Project has provided a significant contribution to the plans for a European Union based ETV scheme, has contributed to international mutual recognition of ETV and has produced a proposal for a Nordic ETV scheme.

Environmental technology verification (ETV) tillhandahåller oberoende fakta över miljöteknik. Med dess hjälp kan företag välja teknologier som har minst möjlig påverkan på klimatet. Systemet finns redan i många länder, bland annat USA och Canada. Nu etableras det även i EU, Nordic Water Technology Verifications är det nordiska projektet i det nya systemet.

VTT and Sund Energy won contracts with the Top-level Research Initiative to conduct Nordic studies on CCS

Finnish VTT was chosen as a contractor for the study "CCS potentials in the Nordic Region". Norwegian Sund Energy will deliver the study "CCS and renewable energy". These activities take place in the frames of the Top-level Research Initiative, in the sub-programme CO2 Capture and Storage.
