During recent years, the study of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) has shown significant opportunities for miniaturized mechanical devices based on functional thin-film materials and silicon technology. Microsystems, MEMS and MST are a quite mature range of technologies, but few industrial companies have the necessary know-how, financing and/or facilities available.

Nanosized soot particles are a serious health hazard in urban air. They can penetrate deep into the lungs and their fat solubility makes possible their accumulation in other organs such as the brain. Consequently, legislation continuously reduces allowable emission levels in diesel powered vehicles. The SootSens project has developed a new sensor based on thermophoresis that enhances soot deposition of submicron particles in diesel exhaust. |

The INTOXSIGN project aims to develop a portable biosensor platform for the detection of illegal drugs in non invasive samples (i.e. saliva). Relevant receptors molecules will be immobilized on disposable sensing chips and detected by optical or mass-sensitive sensors. The combination of a versatile micro-fluidic platform and a method for oriented immobilisation of antibodies for producing the sensor chip will enhance further development of novel diagnostic POC devices. > Les mer |
