Exploiting the potential of Nordic internationalisation of services

A feasibility study examining the possibilities for Nordic service standardisation initiatives.
The service sector is of increasing importance to the European and Nordic economies. However, the availability of standards within the service sector is very poor put in regard to the economic importance and potential of this area. Therefore the Nordic Innovation Centre has commissioned a feasibility study with the aim of selecting and defining those service sectors where standardisation can contribute to economic growth and internationalisation of Nordic service provision.

To certify your services

A study of the certification market in the Northern European service sector.

The service sector accounts for more than 2/3 of economic activity in most European countries. However, there is relatively little trade in services across national boundaries. The certification of services has the potential to become an important mechanism for assuring the quality both of the services themselves, and thus also the trade in these services.

Experience Design in City Tourism

How to design experiences: ’Experience design in city tourism’ has gathered 14 city tourism organisations from most of the larger cities in the Nordic region. In August 2007, a large comparative interview study of more than 5.000 tourists was conducted and analyzed. The project‘s aim was to gain knowledge about the experiences that tourists have, want and remember, in order to improve the experiences that are supplied and demanded in the cities.

Innovation systems in Nordic tourism

This joint Nordic research project, with participants from all five Nordic countries, details 10 case studies of tourism enterprises, two in each country, in order to establish the driving forces of innovation in a growing service sector industry. The research findings will provide the foundations for alternative public policy that will facilitate growth in tourism.

Nordic platforms for better trade in services

The Nordic Innovation Centre has taken the initiative to the project "Nordic platforms for better trade in services". The main objectives of the project are to contribute to well-functioning Nordic and European markets for services by ensuring “tradeable” services of high quality, to avoid fragmented service markets, to ensure SMEs involvement and promote innovations.

Innovation systems in the tourist industry - policy approaches and driving forces in a Nordic context

In order to enhance the competitive advantage and in order to create economic and employment successes, the tourist industry is obliged to innovate on a continual base. In all industries, innovation takes place in a social, cultural, economic, institutional and regulatory environment – an innovation system. In the case of tourism there is a limited understanding of the nature and implication of innovation system
